Need help transitioning from Photoshop? Try GIMPshop

A version of The GIMP with a Photoshop "look-and-feel" Not a one-for-one correspondence, but hopefully enough to entice people to try it. Windows, Mac and Linux versions.
Now what's their excuse for not trying it? :)

Just started with GIMP as a regular tool

I first tried GIMP several releases ago on a very slow box, and just couldn't deal.

I now have a few faster boxes, and I also have GIMP on my Windows laptop (hey, it's required for my work... I do run Knoppix though). I'm really impressed, especially when GIMP is compared against Photoshop Elements. Elements added some new features in this release, possibly due to GIMP competition?

I've also converted to Photoshop users to GIMP by enticing them with GIMPshop.

Anybody else have good experience with the new versions?
new and not understanding much

Hi! I just starting running Linux, so the Gimp is new to me. I am used to Photo Suite. I have the book, "Grokking the Gimp", but it's way over my head. I don't have much time to study on the computer, so I need a basic.. very basic.. tutorial.

Where can I go to find such a thing? Is there a simple, easy to understand tutorial somewhere?

Thanks,
Prairie

Hey guys, I just started playing with The Gimp. I've played around a little bit with Photoshop but I don't know alot about it, or graphic design in general, and don't plan on being a graphic designer or anything - just for fun.

Out of curiousity, what is it you guys like about The Gimp? How does it compare to Photoshop? (besides the fact that it's GNU and photshop isn't.) In my first linux book, Oreilly's "Running Linux", it mentioned that in some ways it's "better". Of course, I'm going to use The Gimp no matter what, just because I like my Linux box, but I'm just curious.

I know with all of three members this isn't exactly a rollicking party, but hey...

I just created a netpbm tribe for the pbm tools. Since gimp and netpbm are both very important to how I do my image manipulation, I thought I should announce it here.

Volume 1, Issue 1: the story of the Candy Mosaic

I took an image from a worth1000.com contest (contest URL below), cut it up into hundreds of 10x10 pixel tiles, and then used the Gimp image mosaic filter to make a mosaic of the original.
